At Sage Curriculum, we believe privacy is a fundamental right. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it. We use plain language here because we think you deserve to understand exactly what we're doing with your data.

What Information We Collect

Information You Give Us Directly

  • Name and email address when you sign up for a course or subscription
  • Payment information processed securely through Stripe (we never store credit card numbers on our servers)
  • Course activity including which lessons you've completed, how long you spent on each module, and your quiz scores
  • Chatbot conversations when you use the AI assistants on our course pages, we store those conversations to help us improve the service and track your learning progress

Information Collected Automatically

  • Basic usage data: which pages you visit, when you visit them, how long you stay
  • Device information: what type of device you're using (computer, tablet, phone), your browser type
  • Cookies: small files that help us remember you when you visit again. You can disable cookies in your browser settings.

Information You May Choose to Share

  • Trust This? email analysis: If you use our SentinelSense email security tool, you may forward suspicious emails to us. We analyze them using AI to determine if they're scams or phishing attempts. We do not permanently store these forwarded emails.

How We Use Your Information

To deliver your courses: We need your name, email, and payment info to set up your account and give you access to your courses.

To communicate with you: We'll send course updates, new content notifications, and customer support messages to your email. We only email about Sage Curriculum — we never sell your email address or use it for third-party marketing.

To improve our service: We review anonymous usage patterns to understand which lessons are most helpful and where students struggle. This helps us make Sage Curriculum better for everyone.

To provide AI chatbot assistance: When you use the chatbots on our course pages, your conversations are sent to Anthropic (the company behind Claude AI) to generate responses. See the “AI Chatbots” section below for details.

For SentinelSense: Emails you forward to our “Trust This?” analysis tool are examined by AI to identify scams. These emails are not stored permanently and are not used for any other purpose.

To generate the Living Update Feed: We use AI to create timely, relevant content about technology, safety, and digital literacy for seniors. A human team reviews all content before it appears on the site.

To comply with the law: If required by law enforcement or court order, we may disclose your information. We'll notify you unless legally prohibited.

What We Do NOT Do

  • We do NOT sell your data to advertisers, brokers, or third parties
  • We do NOT share your information with advertisers — even though we have affiliate relationships, those partners don't get your personal data
  • We do NOT use cookies to track you across other websites — our cookies only work on Sage Curriculum
  • We do NOT store your credit card information — Stripe handles that securely, and we only receive a confirmation that payment was processed
  • We do NOT share your payment information with our affiliate partners — if you purchase an affiliate product through our link, that company gets their own payment info, but not your Sage Curriculum data

Third-Party Services We Use

We rely on trusted companies to deliver our service. Here's who has access to what:

Supabase (authentication and database): Sees your name, email, course progress, and account activity — Supabase Privacy Policy

Vercel (hosting): Serves your site pages and handles deployments — Vercel Privacy Policy

Stripe (payment processing): Sees your payment information, but we do not store it — Stripe Privacy Policy

ConvertKit (email delivery): Sees your email address and delivery preferences — ConvertKit Privacy Policy

Anthropic (AI chatbot): Sees the text of your chatbot conversations to generate responses — Anthropic Privacy Policy

Postmark (transactional email): Sees confirmation emails and password reset emails — Postmark Privacy Policy

AWS Lambda (cloud computing): Powers our backend services but does not access personal data

AARP, 1Password, NordVPN, Norton LifeLock, Medical Guardian, Trust & Will (affiliate partners): Only receive information about purchases made through their own systems — they do not receive your Sage Curriculum account data

AI Chatbots & Generative Content

How Our Chatbots Work

When you ask a question to an AI assistant on a course page, your message is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. Your message is kept temporarily to improve our chatbot experience (we review conversations to see what questions are most common and whether our chatbots are helpful).

Trust This? Email Analysis

Our SentinelSense email analysis tool uses AI to examine forwarded emails for signs of scams or phishing. These emails are processed but not permanently stored on our servers.

Living Update Feed

Our Living Update Feed is AI-generated but always reviewed by a human editor before publishing. It's a tool to help you stay informed about technology, digital safety, and relevant news — not a substitute for checking multiple news sources.

IMPORTANT: None of these AI tools are substitutes for professional advice. If an AI chatbot or the Living Update Feed touches on financial, legal, or medical topics, please consult qualified professionals before making decisions.

Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use cookies to:

  • Keep you logged in to your account
  • Remember your course progress
  • Understand which pages are most popular (analytics)
  • Prevent spam and fraud

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features of Sage Curriculum may not work properly if you do. We do NOT use cookies for targeted advertising.

Data Retention

Here's how long we keep your information:

  • Account information (name, email, payment record): Until you delete your account
  • Course progress and quiz scores: Until you delete your account
  • Chatbot conversations: Kept indefinitely unless you request deletion
  • Email forwarded for Trust This? analysis: Deleted within 30 days
  • Email marketing communications: Kept until you unsubscribe

You can request deletion of any of your personal data at any time. We'll delete it within 30 days, except where we're required by law to keep records (like payment records for tax purposes).

Your California Rights (CCPA)

If you're a California resident, you have the right to:

  1. Know what personal information we collect — this Privacy Policy tells you
  2. Delete your personal information — contact us and we'll delete it within 45 days (except where required by law)
  3. Opt out of any sales of your data — we don't sell data, so this right is automatically protected
  4. Non-discrimination — we won't penalize you for exercising these rights

To exercise these rights, email privacy@sagecurriculum.com and tell us what you'd like us to do.

If you have a complaint about how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the California Attorney General's office.

Children's Privacy

Sage Curriculum is designed for adults, particularly those 65 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover that we've collected information from a minor, we'll delete it immediately. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided information to Sage Curriculum should contact us right away.

International Users

Sage Curriculum is based in California and subject to U.S. privacy laws. If you're outside the U.S., be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States. By using Sage Curriculum, you consent to this transfer.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We'll update this policy if our practices change. We'll notify you by email of any material changes. Your continued use of Sage Curriculum after those changes means you accept the updated policy.
